Weekend sculpture projects for Efford in March

Artists from the south west will be working with the Efford community to create outdoor sculptures in a series of weekend workshops - Something for the Weekend.  During March, artists Jonathan Sells, Alain Pezard and James Lake will be working with the community to create a legacy of public art for the area.

March 6-7 - Jonathan Sells (closed session)  

Stone Sculpture

Efford Youth Centre

Jonathan will be working with members of the Efford Youth Centre's Young  Women's  Group  on  a  series  of  Purbeck  stone  panels.    The sculptures will reflect the work of the young women's group and will be incorporated into the newly refurbished Yeo Close Play Park as part of the regeneration of Efford.  The sculpture will form part of a series of outdoor public art by young people in Efford at the park, which will be unveiled on March 20.

Cob Sculpture

High View School, Blandford Road

The community are invited to make a giant hippo of cob outside of High View School's temporary Plym View site on Blandford Road.  Members of the Crazy Glue group, a parent and student-led arts group at High View School will make, film and host the event as part of the development of a arts social enterprise project for the school.  The sculpture will be left on the temporary site for High View School on Blandford Road after the school locates to its new premises on Torridge Way and will mark the process of the move for the community.

Cardboard Sculpture

Efford Valley (Happy Valley Day)

James Lake is inviting people into the Valley to explore memories of the community of Efford in this one day sculpture and oral history project.  A tree of memories and hopes will be made in the Valley on a day that explores and commemorates the history of the area and looks at what Efford means to the people that live there.  The tree will be sited at various public spaces in Efford throughout the Take A Part project, starting with Efford Library.

Something for the Weekend is a partnership project between Take A Part and Kaleido Arts. 

Take A Part - Take A Part is a two year arts in the public realm project for the Efford community of Plymouth in which the process of making the art is as important as the art itself and the community are encouraged to work alongside artists to create work.
