Deaf or Disabled Artist needed for Community Based Residency

A Deaf or disabled artist is being sought to lead a participatory residency from May to September in Gosport, Hampshire. The artist(s) will be based at the Gosport Discovery Centre and will run creative workshops for local participants, as well as doing their own work, exploring the theme of 'Search and Discover in Gosport'. Inspiration will be drawn from the local history collection and the historic environment of the town. The residency will culminate in an exhibition or event for Heritage Open Days, September 9th-12th 2010.

Applications are invited from Deaf and disabled artists working in photography, sound, music or spoken word, who are enthusiastic about participatory creative work and who wish to develop their practice. Emergent and early career artists are encouraged to apply and mentoring support will be provided. The fee is £6000 for 30 days work. The deadline for applications is Monday 5th April 2010.

Creative Landscapes is part of the Accentuate Programme and seeks to increase opportunities for engagement with heritage and the historic environment by Deaf and disabled people through creative exploration.

Accentuate is funded by Legacy Trust UK, an independent charity set up to create a cultural legacy from the 2012 Olympic Games across the UK.
