Artist in Residence Fowey Change School Project

Fowey School is working with RIO on the Creative Partnership Change school scheme. The school is working on developing creativity across the curriculum focusing on these themes:
  • Local environment - using local materials
  • Sustainability issues
  • Developing the school garden & the grounds

The school has been writing these themes into their curriculum with each teacher thinking of ways to incorporate more creativity into the curriculum across the areas of focus; local environment, being more sustainable & environmentally friendly & how they can increase the opportunities for outdoor learning & play by developing their grounds.

17 May Arts week - Role of Artist in Residence

The school want to employ an artist in residence for their Arts Week in May (17th - 21st inclusive), working in the school that week, across the whole of the school using the project themes as inspiration.

It would be the Lead Artist in Residence responsibility to run workshops each day with different groups & liaise with a guest artist each day. This will culminate in exhibition at end of week & the creation of a number of installations around the school & the school grounds (some temporary installations & one a more permanent lasting feature).

The lead 'Artist in Residence' would work alongside a guest artist each day, to help bring different skills & ideas to the week.

Some mediums & skills the school would like to explore through the week, (although the school are open to exploring a range of creative skills & activities):

  • Mural/graffiti/outdoor painting & art
  • Using recycled, reclaimed & found materials
  • Outdoor music
  • Mosaic
  • Representing natural elements; earth, water, wind & fire

Throughout the week the school would like to offer opportunities to involve parents in activities, this could be end of school sessions or during the day.

Fee

3 days preparation & liaison with guest artists: £575

5 days in school as Artist in Residence: £1000

3 days finishing up installations & any other follow up workshops needed: £575

Total: £2150

  • Materials budget: up to £500 but would need to be discussed with school & RIO.
